Karen A. Haines, MA, LCMHC - Building a strong foundation
My root philosophy is cognitive-behaviorally based in that our thoughts (cognitions) directly affect our behaviors and our behaviors have a direct effect on our thoughts. I also believe that we all have strengths that will assist us in working towards emotional health and well being. I use an eclectic approach to tap into those strengths, and will help you grow and build those strengths so you are able to utilize those strengths to achieve balance and wellness in your life.
In working with young children I use more of a psychoanalytical approach in my play therapy technique. A child's natural way of experiencing their world and relationships and communicating is through play. By using direct and indirect play therapy techniques, children are best able to express themselves, learn new adaptive skills and grow.
For trauma work I use both EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique a/k/a tapping), Gentle Reprocessing (an off shoot of EMDR), and sandtray.
I aim to create an environment of trust and respect where, together, we can identify and fully utilize your strengths so you can build that strong foundation for future growth and emotional well being.
